🛠️ Frequently Asked Questions
1. Why 316SS instead of the standard 304 Stainless Steel?
316 Stainless Steel contains Molybdenum, which provides superior resistance to high-temperature corrosion and "creep" (deformation under heat) compared to 304. For a turbocharged Evo that sees high EGTs (Exhaust Gas Temperatures), 316SS is much less likely to crack over time.
2. What does 'Back-Purged' TIG welding actually do for a turbo manifold?
Back-purging involves filling the inside of the runner with argon gas while welding the outside. This prevents "sugaring" (oxidation) on the inside of the weld. Without it, the interior weld becomes brittle and can flake off, potentially sending metal shards directly into your expensive Garrett G30 turbine wheel.
3. Is this manifold 'AC Compatible' in an Evo 8/9 engine bay?
Yes. "AC Compatible" means the runner geometry is designed to clear the Air Conditioning compressor and lines. Many large tubular manifolds require removing AC to fit, but this specific design allows you to keep your interior climate control.
4. Can I use my stock turbo with this V-Band manifold?
No. The stock Evo 7/8/9 turbo uses a "Twin Scroll TD05" flange. This manifold is specifically designed for Garrett V-Band housings (G25, G30, G35). You must have a turbocharger with a matching V-band inlet to bolt it up.
5. How much faster will my turbo spool compared to the stock ported manifold?
While tubular manifolds are often associated with top-end power, the smooth transition of a handcrafted collector actually improves "transient response" (how fast the boost comes back after a shift). Expect a slight shift in the powerband toward the high-end, with significantly higher peak flow.
6. Do I need a custom 'Dump Tube' for the 44mm wastegate?
Yes. Because this manifold uses an external wastegate, you will need a custom-fabricated tube to vent the exhaust gases either back into the downpipe (recirculated) or out through the hood/bottom of the car (screamer pipe).
7. Does a 'Lifetime Warranty' cover racing or track use?
Most premium manifold manufacturers cover cracks under normal racing conditions if the manifold was installed with proper bracing. However, you should always check if the warranty requires the use of a flexible coupling in the downpipe to prevent engine movement from stressing the manifold.
8. Should I wrap this manifold in Titanium heat wrap?
While 316SS is durable, the heat radiating from a tubular manifold is much higher than the stock cast iron piece. Using heat wrap or a ceramic coating is highly recommended to protect your cam sensor, spark plug wires, and radiator fans from melting.
